VANESSA- IN SCHOOL MENTOR
What do you enjoy about being a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Windsor Essex?
Being a mentor, I enjoy having the ability to brighten up someone else’s day. Whether it’s through a few words, a long conversation, doing an activity, or simply just being there, I know I can make an impact by being the constant in a child’s life..
What is one memory with your Mentee/Little that still makes you smile?
A memory that still makes me smile is when I introduced chess to my mentee. The first time around, we both had no clue what we were doing, looking at instructions online. Our next visit after that, he came in ready to teach me how to play chess, as he had taught himself at home.

What are some of your favourite activities to do with your Mentee/Little?
I love to just talk to them and have a conversation- it’s one of the best ways to get to know someone. I don’t really have a favourite activity, whatever makes them happy, I’ll enjoy..

What advice would you give to someone thinking about becoming a mentor with BBBSWE?
I would say to just go for it. Whether you have a reason for it or not, this program allows room for so much growth, not only for the vulnerable children in the program, but for you as well. You learn so much about yourself throughout the process, while also being a positive figure in a young person’s life.
