MENTOR OF THE MONTH

HANNA- IN SCHOOL MENTOR

What inspired you to become a volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Windsor Essex?

I was inspired to volunteer with Big Brother Big Sister because I wanted to make a meaningful difference in a young person’s life. I believe that having a positive role model and consistent support can really shape a child’s confidence and future. Volunteering gave me the opportunity to give back to my community while building a supportive relationship that helps a young person grow, feel valued, and reach their potential.

What is one memory with your Mentee/Little that still makes you smile?

One memory that still makes me smile is when we first met. We clicked instantly laughing, joking, and feeling comfortable right away. It made me really excited about the connection we were going to build together.

What are some of your favourite activities to do with your Mentee/Little?

Some of my favourite activities to do with my Mantee is playing Uno and chess, which are always fun and help build focus and friendly competition. We also really enjoy playing soccer together because it keeps us active and gives us a chance to have fun outdoors.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about becoming a mentor with BBBSWE?

My advice would be to go into it with an open mind and a genuine willingness to connect. Being a mentor doesn’t require you to be perfect just consistent, supportive, and present. The impact you can have on a young person’s confidence and growth is incredibly rewarding.
