ROSS – IN SCHOOL MENTOR

As a retired educator of 31 years with the Windsor Essex Catholic District School Board, I have always seen the value of providing guidance and encouragement to the youth in our community.
I was blessed to have positive and supportive role models and coaches during my childhood and beyond.
My parents Sam and Beverley, as well as my University of Windsor basketball coaches Paul Thomas and Nick Grabowski helped shape the person I am today.
Caleb and I enjoying playing basketball, soccer and pickleball in the school gymnasium. We also spend time doing creative art activities and engaging in friendly competition with board games. I have taught him a few card tricks as well.
Caleb and really enjoyed the year end picnic put on by BBBSWE. It was great to see him interacting with other children from the community, as well as the volunteers. He thought it was so cool to meet the firefighters and sit in the firetruck.
As Martin Luther King stated, “The most important and urgent question we should ask ourselves is What are we doing to serve others?”
I feel that when we serve others, we are nourishing our own souls. The feeling of lifting another person’s spirit is significant and lasting. It feels good to know that you are making a positive impact on another person’s life. Hopefully, Caleb will feel the motivation to do the same when he has the opportunity in his own life.
